Lewis: Jordan regrets playing for the Wizards

By Anthony Caruso III | Publisher

According to Ray Lewis, Michael Jordan’s only regret in his NBA career is playing for the Washington Wizards. The problem when you’re super competitive, like Jordan was, is you do not know when to step away from the game.

Jordan spent two seasons with the Wizards. Those two yards did not live up to the 12-plus years he had with the Chicago Bulls, including his six NBA championships.

When Jordan went to the Wizards, he came out of retirement for a second-time. He played in Washington from 2001 to 2003.

“MJ, I never forget, said this to me: ‘The only thing I regret, is putting on another uniform,” Lewis said on FOX’s Speak for Yourself on Friday.

Jordan, while a member of the Wizards, averaged 21.2 points per game in 142 games. As a member of the Bulls, he also won 10 scoring titles and five MVPs.

Lewis, who retired from the NFL a few years back after playing 17-years with the Baltimore Ravens, won two Super Bowls with the team. He was also a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year award winner.

James now postseason all-time leading scorer

By Anthony Caruso III | Publisher

There is a debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James on who is the best player of all-time. On Thursday night, James surpassed Jordan in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics.

James is now the most prolific scorer in NBA history during the postseason. He clinched the record with a three-pointer in the third quarter in his 11-year playoff career.

That helped James surpass Jordan’s long-time record of 5,989 points. And the Cavaliers superstar is not done, as now he could put the record out of reach.

“I’ve always told you guys, any time I’m linked to any of the greats and even the greatest in Mike, it’s an honor,” James said prior to the game. “It’s a tribute to what I’ve been able to do with this game.”

James had 35 points in the Cavaliers 135-102 win in Game 5 over the Celtics. Cleveland won the series 4-1 to advance to their third straight NBA Finals.

On Thursday night, June 1st, the Cavaliers will begin The Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

“I wear the number because of Mike,” said James said after the game. “I think I fell in love with the game because of Mike, just because of what he was able to accomplish. When you’re watching Michael Jordan it’s almost like a god. So I didn’t think I could be Mike.”

Ali is more than #TheGreatest

By Anthony Caruso III
Publisher

Does #TheGreatest symbolize Muhammad Ali? There’s no comparison that captures this man.

Ali died at 74-years-old on Friday night in Scottsdale, Arizona hospital. He was in grave condition for several hours with a respiratory issue before his death.

“He will never die,” boxing promoter Don King said. “His spirit will go on forever.”

When you put Ali up against any other athlete, including Michael Jordan or even Jackie Robinson, he’s done more than anyone has ever done in their lifetime. His legacy will live on forever — and it’ll be difficult to touch what he was able to do in his 74-years on earth.

He stood up in a different time, where people did not have a voice. He decided to stand up — and caused others to do the same.

Muhammad Ali (Photo by the Associated Press)

Kids today don’t truly understand what Ali had to go through. There was no social media when he was alive — and some can say that, along with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., they were the two most powerful leaders.

“I shook up the world!,” Ali once said. “I’m the greatest thing that ever lived. I don’t have a mark on my face, and I upset.”

He even had three-years of his life robbed because he refused to join the military. Who knows what his boxing career numbers would be if he did fight for those three-years.

Now, if you don’t want to join the services, you don’t have to. They’re not going to put you in jail if you decide to do other things in life.

There was no one like this — then or now that he wouldn’t take on.

Even when there were major events going on, like 9/11 or Osama Bin Laden‘s death, he would comment on those matters. He was completely unafraid with his boldness — which took years to change his hated beginnings to being so loved.

There’s an athletic legacy, along with civil rights and philanthropist legacy, as one. He took stands on issues that took nervous — and he’s idolized because of some of these stands.

Ali helped change the world — and may other ways in the United States. Champ, you were one of a kind.

Your impact stings more than a bee.

Golden State Warriors record their 73rd win over the Grizzlies

Even though head coach Steve Kerr wouldn’t admit it until the end — the Golden State Warriors have broke his team’s former record. Kerr was a member of the Chicago Bulls two decades ago when they set the best record in NBA history with a 72-10 mark in 1995-96.

That record is no more as the Warriors broke the record with a 73-9 mark. They set the record with a 125-104 win over the Memphis Grizzles at Oracle Arena.

This is a record that was once considered to be untouchable. However, the Warriors were the right team to do it as they averaged more points and made more three-pointers than the Bulls.

While Stephen Curry became the first-player to achieve 400 three-pointers in a season, he finished with 46 points in the game. He also had 402 three’s overall on the season.

So many people will say that the Warriors got the record. But it doesn’t mean anything if they don’t win the championship. If they’re able to roll through the playoffs — like they did in the regular season — it wouldn’t be surprising if they did win back-to-back championships.

Even President Barack Obama recognized history.

“Congrats to the Warriors, a great group of guys on and off the court,” he said in a Tweet. “If somebody had to break the Bulls’ record, I’m glad it’s them.”

They went for the record — and knew that it would really come down to Sunday night’s game. The San Antonio Spurs game at AT&T Center was their toughest test — before they got the win and set up the history-making event.

So many people questioned that the Warriors may not get the record, because they were tired. But those comments can’t be taken seriously now, as they proved that young bodies are the best in recovering and dealing with a lack of rest.

“Congratulations to the Golden State Warriors on their 73rd win and the best regular-season record in NBA history,” commissioner Adam Silver said. “The team held itself to a high standard throughout the season, playing with purpose every night and captivating fans around the world with its free-flowing style, spectacular shooting and flair for the dramatic. Kudos to the entire Warriors organization.”

Each time the Warriors scored a 100 or more points. This was the first-time all season the Grizzlies scored a 104 against the Warriors.

Zach Randolph led the Grizzlies with 24, while Lance Stephenson came off the bench to score 22. JaMychal Green and Jarell Martin were also in double-figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Warriors had five players in double-figures, including four in the starting lineup.

“I want to congratulate the Warriors on their amazing season,” Michael Jordan said in a statement. “The game of basketball is always evolving and records are made to be broken. The Warriors have been a lot of fun to watch and I look forward to seeing what they do in the playoffs.”

Kobe gets another record in his final game

As Kobe Bryant closes out his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers on ESPN2 against the Utah Jazz, he has added one final accomplishment to his record. He’s become the first future Hall of Famer to score 30 points in their final game.

Previously, it was never done until when Bryant was able to do that. The Lakers are letting Bryant go — as he’s putting on a show after struggling early on — and he’ll have the rest of his life to recover from this evening.

Right now, Bryant has 40 points in his final game after going 15-of-36 from the field. It’s also the most by any 15,000-point scorer in his final game.

It’s his first 40-point game since Nov. 2014.

The Lakers are only expected to play Bryant six minutes in the fourth quarter — and it’ll be interesting to see if he plays the first six months or the final six minutes.

If you were working, when Michael Jordan retired with the Washington Wizards for the third-time, he had 15 points. Bryant at 15 points in the first quarter.

“No, I didn’t,” Byron Scott said in the post-third quarter interview. “I’m going to let him go for 50.”

He said he was going to let Bryant go — even though the team said he was just going to play six minutes.

Warriors have better start than the Bulls 95-96 team

The reigning NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors, are perfect on the season. They are 8-0 through the first 8 games.

The Warriors, led by the reigning MVP Stephen Curry, has been dominate in all their wins. Curry is averaging 32.4 points per game during this stretch. If he’s able to keep it up, it would be a new scoring career-high in his seventh season.

While Curry is blossoming into a great player – some say that he’s already there – Michael Jordan was already great during the 1995-96 season. That year, the Chicago Bulls team went 7-1 to begin the season.

The Bulls lost their first game of the year against the Anfernee Hardaway-led Orlando Magic team, 94-88, in Orlando Arena. The Magic played without Shaquille O’Neal in this game.

Jordan had 23 points against the Magic, while Penny Hardaway had a game-high 36 points.

In the month of November, the Bulls were 12-2. Their other loss was against the now defunct Seattle SuperSonics in a 97-92 loss at KeyArena.

There’s a chance the Warriors could win every game this month. They face the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night at FedExForum, which will likely be their ninth win of the season.

The Toronto Raptors (5-2) and the Bulls (5-3) have the best chance to defeat the Warriors. However, both of these games are being playing in front of the Warriors home fans in Oakland.

On Tuesday, Nov. 17th, the Warriors face the Raptors. Then, three days later and a night after playing the Los Angeles Clippers in Los Angeles, they take on the Bulls in a back-to-back.

NBA looking to move the All-Star game to a week-long event

The NFL has a week-long lead up to the Super Bowl to garner more interest and more money around the event. With the success, the NBA is considering to moving the All-Star game to a week-long event.

Typically, there is only a three-day break heading into the All-Star game unless you are one of the four teams playing on TNT the night before the break. In order to move the All-Star break, the NBA would have to make teams go through more back-to-back games.

Reportedly, it may only cost them one or two more additional back-to-back games per team.

“That’s the model they’re using right now while they’re filling in the schedule,” an NBA source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel today. “Could they go back and use some of those dates if needed? That’s possible. But the week off looks like what’s going to happen.”

The NBA’s All-Star game weekend will be in New York this year. On Saturday night, the festivities will be held at the Barclays Center featuring the Slam Dunk contest, three-point and skills competition.

The following night, the All-Star game will be held at Madison Square Garden. This will be New York’s first All-Star game since 1998 when the East defeated the West, 135-114 with Michael Jordan being named MVP.
