Kendrick Perkins will miss the next three months as he recovers from a right pectoral injury. The New Orleans Pelicans center’s news is coming on the heels of an 0-4 start to the season.
The team is also dealing with injuries to Omer Asik, Tyreke Evans, Quincy Pondexter and Norris Cole.
Perkins was never expected to play a major role with the team this season. His signing was more so to teach young power forward Anthony Davis. With Asik out, head coach Alvin Gentry was forced into using Perkins more before his injury.
He suffered the injury last Saturday against the Golden State Warrriors. He was a starter in three games and averaged 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds.
Last season, he split time with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he combined for 68 games. With the Thunder, he averaged 4.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, but with the Cavaliers, it was a different story, as he averaged 2.6 points and 2.4 rebounds.
He signed a one-year, veterans minimum salary back in July. In 12 career NBA seasons that also included the Boston Celtics, he’s averaged 5.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
