Kalamazoo Speedway driver Brent Hook was shot on Tuesday morning in Cooper Township, Michigan, according to the authorities. He was shot at his business.
Wood TV reports that Hook is in critical condition after having to have emergency surgery.
An employee told the TV station that they arrived to work at the Tough Coat Custom Powder Coating business and they found Hook shot. The employee reportedly arrived around 7:30 am.
“The person of interest was brought to our attention through information received at the scene, as well as a phone call that we won’t be able to go into right now,” Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said, according to Wood TV.
“The indicators are that we have a scene that was familiar to both people,” Fuller added.
The investigators were tipped off around noon local time, according to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, that the person of interest may have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. However, they did not say where the person was found or what his name was.
The authorities believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. The schools nearby were even put on a ‘soft lockdown,’ as a precaution, as the authorities searched for the suspect.
