John Force Racing has won the past two Funny Car races. First, it was living legend John Force.
Robert Hight won the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented by Pennzoil on Monday. He defeated Ron Capps in the final round.
The Auto Club of Southern California sponsored driver went 3.916 at 327.19 mph to get the win. The NAPA Auto Parts sponsored driver went 4.684 at 179.25 mph in the loss.
“The (Force) car has been the class of the field the last few races and they helped us on Monday after Charlotte,” said Hight, who picked up his fourth win at Houston. “That got us back on track, and (crew chief) Jimmy Prock and this Auto Club team just did their job. These races are hard to win and there’s a lot of good cars out there. This place has a special place in my heart — my first win came here — and after sitting out last year you wonder if you’re ever going to get another one of these.”
Before the rain-delayed final round, Hight held a 36-33 advantage over Capps in previous events. Hight also held a 6-2 advantage over Capps in their previous final round meetings.
Hight picked up his 52nd career win as he never trailed in the race. This is his first Wally of the 2021 season.
Capps had problems near the 330-foot mark. After that, he just clicked it off.
